‘Red Cross must always adhere to their core principles’

Kohima, November 17 (MExN): Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Nagaland State Branch, Kohima organised the ceremonial function of 34th annual general body meeting at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan Kohima on November 17.

Governor, Prof Jagdish Mukhi in his IRCSN presidential address said the Red Cross has achieved remarkable accomplishments over the years through their humanitarian services, reaching out to the poor and vulnerable especially in times of disaster. He reminded that the Red Cross must always adhere to their core principles- voluntary service, humanity, impartiality, unity, neutrality, independence and universality, stated a press release issued by the PRO to Governor. 

Governor said the Nagaland Red Cross has taken a proactive role in the districts as an auxiliary body to the district administration throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and helped during fire disasters, accidents, and organised medical camps. He asked the IRCSN to be prepared for any kind of disaster whether natural or man-made through proper planning and collaboration with all stakeholders. Governor appealed to the Red Cross to reach out to the grass root level where the vaccination for COVID-19 is low. He further urged everybody specially the youths of colleges and schools to become members of the Red Cross. Expressing gratitude to IRCS Dimapur branch for organizing blood donation camps, he also advised the IRCSN to carry out blood donation camps.

Governor expressed appreciation to the IRCS New Delhi and Chief Minister Nagaland for providing COVID-19 kits and funds in the form of Grant-in-Aid. Through the IRCSN meeting, he expressed hope that all the Red Crossers would get encouraged to work with greater zeal and enthusiasm.

Governor presented the Red Cross batch to the newly inducted patrons and vice-patrons.

Managing Committee Member, Dr Keplhusie Terhüja gave the welcome address; General Secretary IRCSN, Dr Neiphi Kire presented the report on Business Session; MC member, Dr. Rose Chakhesang gave the vote of thanks and Chairperson IRCSN, Abeni TCK delivered the introductory speech.
