DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): In the backdrop of reports on opening of training camps near Ralan Sub-division of Nagaland by the Maoists from central India known as Adivasi National Liberation Army (ANLA), the Rengma Hoho Dimapur has demanded the immediate expulsion of what it termed as “ANLA elements from our ancestral land”. “The minds of the innocent and simple minded adivasis living in our land should not be allowed to be poisoned with Maoists ideology which believes in violent overthrow of democratically elected governments and its replacement with authoritarian one party rule”, stated a press note issued by K. Kath Rengma, President and Azuto Rengma Vice-President of Rengma Hoho Dimapur.
Also the press note made it known as to what it described as “an indisputable fact” that the area where the Maoists training camps were being set up falls under the land of the Rengma Nagas since “it lies near the bank of Rengma River which is within Rengma Reserved Forest”. Pointing out that the Rengma Reserved Forest was created within Rengma Hills on 13th April 1887 and covering an area of 34,400 acres, the press note made it clear that the Rengma Nagas are the true owners of the land where “Maoists (ANLA) has set up their training camps in the midst of Adivasis who are immigrants in our land”.
As such, the “Maoists are cautioned not to trespass on our land and unnecessarily provoke us lest there be repercussions”, the Rengma Hoho stated. Stating that it was not possible for “anarchist ideology to find sympathy among the Nagas, the press note demanded that the Nagaland government evict “these unwelcome elements from our midst for the sake of peace and good community relations”. The Rengma Hoho also stated that the “different peoples or community have been living in peace and therefore any form of possible harassment or violence meted out to non-adivasi communities by Maoists and its sympathizers shall be construed as a challenge to the entire Nagas”.
