Dimapur, November 22 (MExN): A 4-Day Residential training programme of KRC 2nd batch started at Hotel Moon Star Dimapur on November 21. 

The training will cover ethos of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) for good water governance leading to long-term sustainability, informed a press release from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM). 

The USTM has been assigned as the Key Resource Centre (KRC) under JJM for North East India under the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti for thematic areas to cover including knowledge and skill, community participation, women empowerment, leadership building among Village Council/VWSC representatives in planning, implementation and operation and maintenance of the water supply infrastructure created. 

In the inaugural session, Dr Nibedita Paul PD, KRC JJM welcomed and briefed the participants on the  objective of the JJM. 

Also attending the session, Er Wati Thompson SDO Urban PHED and Roland Chief Chemist highlighted the role of PHED and how they are implementing the scheme in Dimapur emphasising on water testing through Field Testing Kits (FTK). Chief Guest, Er PK Chakroborty retired Secretary PHED Assam also shared on the importance of source sustainability and water quality monitoring system. Er PP Sarma Technical Expert KRC USTM discussed on role of third party monitoring. 

Other attending the event were Barnali Ghosh UNICEF; Rituparna Borkataki, Training Coordinator KRC; Wonjano Odyou from State PHED Kohima. Different WATSAN committees of Dimapur district along with Village Council and ISA members of the district are participating in the training.
