Review security cover of top political leaders: NPCC

DIMAPUR, MAY 19 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today termed recent reports that an arrested hitman was contracted to kill a Nagaland based politician as “shocking and unprecedented.”

“This revelation goes on to prove some politico-criminal nexus at highest level,” said a press note from the NPCC today, while urging both the Delhi and Nagaland Police forces to initiate a thorough probe to unearth the masterminds.  “It is commendable on the part of Nagaland Police to promptly depute an IG rank officer to Delhi to be part of joint investigation with Delhi Police,” the NPCC meanwhile stated.

It further urged the Government of Nagaland to review security cover of top political leaders irrespective of party affiliations. “During the past few years, security cover for majority of opposition party leaders have either been scaled down or withdrawn in the name of austerity and low threat perceptions. In such a scenario, many political party leaders are left vulnerable to attacks from criminal elements,” it said.

“With this shocking development, the state government must ensure prophylactic security arrangements are put in place to deter any criminal minds from carrying out their dastardly act,” the NPCC added.

Naga Hoho calls for CBI, NIA probe

The Naga Hoho has meanwhile advised the Nagaland State Government to invite the CBI and NIA to investigate the reports, authenticate the conspirators and expose the people involved.

A press note from the Naga Hoho said that “Naga society and the ethos are very unique that we cannot accept under any circumstances such malice to fellow citizens.”
