The chief minister said that we live in a fast changing world today; a world that is filled with the pressures of life and uncertainty, and a world dictated by materialism, selfishness and conflicts. He said that Nagaland has also been afflicted by such problems which drive us to search and yearn for peace.
“In such a world of strife and turmoil, let us remind ourselves the assurance of our Lord Jesus that He has given us His peace. We also need to remind ourselves again that He brought with him forgiveness and hope for eternal life. These are enough reasons for us to be happy and celebrate Christmas in the true spirit of sharing and forgiveness,” Rio said.
Rio added that despite much strife and conflicts witnessed in our land, God has been kind to us. He lauded the efforts of the Hohos, NGOs, the Church and Civil Societies and everyone concerned, who have managed to bring about peace to our land; adding that people are now looking forward to a long awaited settlement of the Naga political problem. He said that it is time come for Nagas to begin a new chapter in its history.
“Let us all hope and pray for lasting peace in our land. Let us pray that we will all experience and share with others the true spirit of Christmas – of sharing of love and of forgiveness,” Rio said. He also asserted that it is time to forget the bitter experiences of the past, and move forward together towards a better and more promising future; to strive to transform all ill-wills and anger into good-will during this season, which proclaims God’s goodwill towards mankind.
The chief minister also extended Christmas and New Year greetings on behalf of his wife and family.
