Rio inaugurates GPP Kohima multi-utility hall

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today inaugurated multi-utility hall of Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) at Chandmari, Kohima.

Speaking on the occasion, Rio said that there is strong presence of the Nepalis/Gorkha community in many important countries and cities and even in Nagaland they lived here even before the Word War –II and pre-Independence of India. He said that their presence felt very strongly and they have made friends and have very close relationship with T Khel of Kohima village.

Rio said that Gorkhas are very accessible and have lot of similarity with the Nagas, including simplicity, bravery, honest and trustworthy and very faithful and very hardworking.

“All the good qualities of the Nepali/ Gorkha make others to have friendship easily and accept them wherever they go,” Rio said adding “We will continue to have the brotherhood with Nagas.”

On the GPPK president’s saying that the Gorkha/Nepalis are here to stay, Rio said “It is very good statement and it will strengthen the relationship with all of us.”

He was also appreciative of the Gorkha community saying that they are very united and positive and encouraged them to hold on to the good history and legacy of goodness.

Rio went on to state the fact that even during World War-II when many non-Nagas had fled Kohima, but the Gorkha community stood with the Nagas and went through the difficult times and even supported the rebuilding process of Kohima town.

He also assured the community that proper directive would be given to the Art and Culture for declaring the temple (Gorkha Singha Devi Mandir, Chandmari, Kohima established in 1880) as “Heritage.”

Earlier, GPPK president Santu Thapa said “Today is a historic and memorable day for the Gorkha community of Kohima and it will remain cherished by generations.”

He said it was a long felt desire of having Multi-Utility Hall and became possible only with the help and assistance of community members, well-wishers, and donors.

Thapa said the concept of constructing this Multi-Utility Hall was necessitated as the old hall was small especially to facilitate different kinds of functions including congregation, ceremonies, parties etc. to reach out to the common people.

He said that this newly constructed Multi-Utility Hall will be made available to all.

The function was compered by Jenny Lamechanne Chetri, vice president Gorkha Students’ Union Kohima while welcome address was delivered by Ranjit Lama, advisor GPPK. Vote of thanks was proposed by Meghraj Lama, president Gorkha Students’ Union Kohima.
