Rio urged to initiate measures to attain self sustenance 

Central Nagaland Students' Association submits representation to CM

 

Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): The Central Nagaland Students' Association (CNSA) in a representation addressed to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio stated that with the global pandemic there is a paradigm change in the minds of every citizen globally for the need to be self sufficient and the need for self sustenance to face the challenges ahead.

 

The CNSA, therefore, in its representation issued on May 13 appealed the State Government to take initiative to give organic certification of the land in Nagaland and initiate with corporate houses for contract farming.

 

It appealed for soil testing and analysis of soil sample be done for the entire state to evaluate the potential crop that may have benefit with higher quality and yield of the crop and ensure quality seeds to be supplied to the farmers the state government must start seed testing laboratory at the earliest.

 

CNSA in the representation appended by its President, Himato Yeptho and general secretary, Lipemo M Tsope also drew the attention of the CM to revamp APMC and marketing strategies to help farmers and traders of the state; explore and encourage Agro food packaging, storages and preservation techniques; build cold storage chain and cold chain vehicles; Proper irrigation facilities to be given to the farmers; and give green house to genuine farmers.

 

The CNSA also requested the CM that agricultural machineries and equipments must be given to genuine farmers and cultivators and also basic minimum support price must be given to the farmers for non perishable agro products.

 

It requested that financial assistance in the form of PMRY, PMKY, CMs corpus fund and any subsidies and loans must be given to genuine entrepreneurs and not on political considerations. The name of the beneficiary, amount assisted and the type of business and location must be clearly mentioned and widely publicized in all local dailies and make mandatory for the beneficiary to display details outside their establishment.

 

The Association also suggested that any beneficiary who closes down their establishment within five years after availing subsidies and loan from the government must be made to recover the whole amount to the State Government.
