RNTCP: Nagaland achieves 80% CDR and 89% CR

Dimapur, October 17 (MExN): The Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) conducted its 3rd Quarterly Review meeting on October 12, 2011 at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Health& Family Welfare (DH&FW), Kohima. Dr KT Lotha, State TB Officer, while making the opening remark presented an overview of the programme.
Dr Shankar Dapkekar, RNTCP North East Consultant gave a brief presentation about the RNTCP performance during the last Quarter. During the 3rd Quarter of 2011, Nagaland could achieve a CDR (Case Detection Rate) of 80% while the CR (Cure Rate) was 89%. During the afternoon session the key issues that were discussed and deliberated were the DOTS Plus services, TB HIV Collaboration, involvement of NGOS, Human resource management etc.
In her speech, the Principal Director (DH&FW), Dr Yangerlemla encouraged the staff at the peripheries to work in close contact with the other parallel programmes. She added that the problem of stigmatization should be addressed at all levels and also urged the poor performing districts to identify their weaknesses and resolve it.
Dr John Sweyievisa, Jt Director acted as the moderator during the discussion hour. It maybe mentioned here that the DOTS Plus refers to services for MDR TB diagnosis, management and treatment which is expected to be made available in Nagaland by Dec2011. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks which was pronounced by Dr Apichetla MO, State Cell.
