After touching down to Guwahati and heading for Mon I could hardly wait to once again get a glimpse of where I last left my heart, my hometown. Unfortunately amidst the yearnings I was astonished and absurd when I felt the bumps of the roads. I could not imagine the condition of the road stretching from Tizit to Mon. I was glad I did not bring my friends along not because I wanted to show them more then what my hometown is but because of what it should have been and was not. After all the twists and turns with a heavy heart and tired muscles I finally made it home. I could not forget about the roads although it may not be the same for those who travel them every day as they have become used to it. I wondered what about during times of emergencies? What about the sick and wounded? I am surprised to have been enlightened of the fact that crores of cash have been entrusted to Ministers, MLAs and Public leaders by the govt. of Nagaland to bring about development in the district such as roads but the cash have been utilized for personal interests or have been diverted for personal reasons.
The contractors who have been entrusted the job of mending the roads are no less than the former as they have been using third rated quality materials for the works due to which the roads don`t even last for a couple of months. Bribery is the key word for the outcome I have been told. If we count the numbers of MLAs and Ministers in Mon district, you could have imagined metal plated highway instead of the narrow lanes which we call - road. Where have the cash gone which were meant for the common man? What about the pathetic condition of the civil hospital in Mon? I am greatly amazed and ashamed at how the so call ministers and MLAs and Administrative officers divert the public funds to build mansions for themselves or to send their off springs to overseas for education. Here is where the rich get richer everyday while the poor just fade and dies away. I jest at the hollow promises and loud noises of the politicians who will go any distance or bear any consequences to be where they are now. The so-called big shots have forgotten that they have been elected or chosen by the people to serve them, to be responsible enough to bring about a better livelihood. Alas! All they see is the green currency and more of it. No one is demanding a luxury here but of what we rightfully and legally deserve as part of the system. I guess this article will just fade away like any other concerns that have come up now and again but I wish the people responsible for bringing about economical, political and social changes reads this and think again for the cries and pains of the masses are that of the Creator and will never go in vain rather remain a curse.
