Student union initiates road repair in Khiamniungan area
Noklak, October 28 (MExN): The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) initiated a twelve-day road repairing from Noklak Hq to Pathso EAC Hq, one of the oldest road under its jurisdiction which was constructed in the year 1966 and “since then the road was neglected with no repairing by the department.”
KSU, Information & Publicity Secretary, L Shingnya in a press release stated that the road is the only life-line for the people of Pathso area connecting Noklak Hq with total of seven villages.
Stating that due to pathetic road condition many unexpected accidents have occurred, the Union blamed it on the “negligence of the state government to repair the old aged road.”
“It has been learnt that several organizations have appraised the state government for maintenance and repair of the said road but the department concerned and the state government have turned deaf ear to the voice of the people and made lame excuses of shortage of sanctions and machineries,” KSU stated.
Expressing dismay over the state government, the KSU said that “most of the roads under Khiamniungan jurisdiction have been left unattended despite several approach and proposals.”
KSU stated that this type of initiatives will proceed further within its jurisdiction and appealed to all general public, councils and churches to coordinate in the cause of maintaining roads.
For the road repair, Pathso area councils and churches, Khiamniungan Baptist Churches Association, Kusong village council and Thang village council and individuals contributed in cash, materials and labour while Executive Engineer PWD, Noklak donated the machineries
