RPF NFR recovers smuggled goods worth Rs 5.85 cr in 2019
Dimapur, November 18 (MExN): Till the month of October 2019, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recovered contraband items worth about Rs. 5.85 crore and has arrested 57 persons involved in such transportation, an official release informed today.
The RPF detected 219 such cases during current year up to the month of October as a part of its “vigorous drives against the menace of transportation of contraband goods through trains over NFR,” stated the release issued by NFR CPRO Subhanan Chanda. In October alone, 21 such cases were detected.
The contraband include items like cannabis, foreign cigarettes, foreign made clothes, drugs, narcotics, cosmetics, morphine and whiskey etc, the release said.
The release further informed that during the last three years - from 2017 up to the month of October, 2019 – the RPF NFR has detected 586 cases of smuggling of contraband goods and items worth about Rs. 16.48 crore were recovered.
