RPOK promotes diverse cultures of Rengma Nagas

A cultural programme under the aegis of Rengma Public Organization Kohima (RPOK) took place at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima and propagated the diverse cultures of Rengmas through folk song and folk dance competition.

Gracing the occasion as the cultural guest, R Khing, Advisor Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resources Development, Nagaland called upon the Rengma community elsewhere to promote and preserve their rich culture and traditions to showcase the unique identity of the Rengma Nagas to others. He also called upon the Rengma community to value, uphold and feel proud of their colourful traditional dresses and ornaments, which represents the rich culture.

Khing called upon the people to stay connected with their rich culture and traditions to keep their identity alive. “We will lose our identity if we do not preserve our culture,” he said.

The state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has been promoting the cultural activities in Nagaland through Hornbill Festival and Mini Hornbill Festival across the state, he said. Khing also stressed on the need to propagate the message of peace, friendship, unity, love and harmony through the platform of cultural exchanges. 

Meanwhile, he called upon the Rengma community to give thanks and glory to God and the state government for the creation of Tseminyu district.
 
Tesophenyu Group Union Kohima wins competitions 
Tesophenyu Group Union Kohima bagged the first position in folk song competition while Phenshunyu Lowjvu Nezen Kohima and Tsogin Union Kohima stood second and third position respectively.

Tesophenyu Group Union Kohima also bagged first position in folk dance competition while Tseminyu Union Kohima and Kasha Daho Kohima stood second and third position respectively.

Seven ranges/groups joined this cultural programme.

The winners will represent RPOK in the forthcoming cultural programme of the Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Nagaland from November 15 to 16 in Kohima.

Earlier, N S Rengma shared greetings. The programme was chaired by Kehoyi Kez while welcome address was delivered by RPOK President, K Gwanilo Himb. Zakevi Kesen, Associate Pastor (youth) Rengma Baptist Church Kohima invoked God’s blessing. Kezia Semy presented a special number while vote of thanks was proposed by RPOK General Secretary, KK Rengma. Agwalo Tep and Lily Kez compered the competition events.
