RPP files PIL against ‘backdoor appointments’ in Nagaland

Kohima, August 31 (MExN): Nagaland’s newest political party, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Kohima Bench of Gauhati High Court against the Government of Nagaland’s decision regarding recruitment in various departments.

The RPP has moved the court against a Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms notification empowering 76 state government departments to conduct departmental examinations for filling up vacant posts. The party alleged that the government notification which was issued by the State Chief Secretary’s office on July 16 under the subject “partial lifting of appointments,” was solely aimed at justifying ‘rampant backdoor appointments’.

It said that the party, on August 13, submitted its appeal to the office of the Chief Secretary, requesting the authority to revoke the said Order and also demanded for the operationalization of Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) with immediate effect.  However the government seems to have turned a deaf ear to the proposal and party had no other option but to file a PIL, it added.

The PIL was filed by RPP secretary (admin) Lhikhro Kreo and other party members through advocate and counselor for the petitioners Neiteo Koza, the party informed in a press release on Tuesday.

The party demanded that the vacant posts be advertised and filled only through the Nagaland Public Service Commission and NSSB recruitment exams in order to facilitate the practice of fair and just recruitment process.

“The RPP reassures its stand with the educated unemployed youths in the fight against this menacing system called backdoor appointment and appeals to all the right thinking citizens and civil society organizations to stand up for the future of Nagaland,” the release stated.
