Dimapur, December 13 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organized a two-day training programme on “Post Harvest Management and Value Addition of Fruits and Vegetables” for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from November 5 to 6. Post harvest management being one of the most important measures in preventing wastage of surplus crop produce particularly during glut, the training was aimed at training the participants on ways and means to achieve these measures through value addition as well as proper post harvest management practices.
Resource persons for the training were Abon W Yanthan, Scientist (Horticulture Vegetable Science), ICAR, Research Complex for NEH Region; Dr A Sarkar, Assistant Professor, Department of Horticulture, N.U: SASRD, Medziphema Campus and V Kenny Rhetso, Chief Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur. The training program covered topics on Processing and value addition of fruits and vegetables, post harvest management of fresh fruits and vegetables, post harvest management and value addition of turmeric, ginger and king chilli, overview of processing and handling of high value fruit crops in Nagaland. A practical session on pickle, squash and jam making was conducted by V Kenny Rhetso, Chief Technical Officer, KVK Dimapur, a press release from SAMETI informed.
The valedictory function was chaired by Vikaho Chophi, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by Jess T Murry, BTM, Kiphire and Keviravono Visa, ATM Kohima. Dr Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC Medziphema delivered the valedictory speech.
