Sangphur village hosts prog on traditional knowledge

Dignitaries along with the participants of the “Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge” prog held at Sangphur on February 24.

Kohima, February 25 (MExN): The Department of Art & Culture, Nagaland organised a programme on “Living Morung and Traditional Knowledge” and ‘Traditional Healing Practices and Indigenous Medicines’ at Sangphur village on February 24.

K Rhakiumong, VCC, Sangphur village graced the occasion as special guest and emphasised the urgent need to preserve and document traditional practices, noting that valuable cultural elements are vanishing and that the Department’s documentation efforts are commendable.

He urged the Department to take major steps to record Naga tribal traditions and usages fast-disappearing practices.

The programme witnessed cultural performances from Kewong Cultural Club and Sangphur Village Cultural Troupe.

Folktale narration was delivered by Z Royim, festival narration by K Ahoshne and Morung & Log drum narration also by Z Royim. A sharing on Yimkhiung shawls was presented by Maching.

The inaugural address was given by Teisovikuolie Therie, Deputy Director, Art and Culture Department.

The resource persons for Traditional Healing Practices were TS Wongthung and K Ahoshne, 2nd GB, assisted by Y Dhomong, C Samuel, Shophu and  Toji. Experience sharing was delivered by Rev Z Thsankiu.

Appreciation certificates were distributed by Teisovikuolie Therie while vote of thanks was proposed by Kiumukam, Assistant Curator.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kiumukam, Assistant Curator while by Rev Z Thsankiu, Pastor, Sangphur Village Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings.

A large number of participants from neighbouring villages and Sangphur villagers attended the workshop.
