Sao Chang College celebrates 45th annual cultural day

Tuensang, November 24 (MExN): The Sao Chang College, Tuensang conducted its 45th annual cultural day on November 22 in the college campus under the theme, ‘Re-presentation of culture’ with Mohammed Ali Shihab, Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang as the special guest. 


Addressing the gathering, DC Tuensang said, “Tuensang is a district of culture with four major tribes inhabiting the district where every community has very rich and unique cultural items.” He said “the forefathers have lived their life with discipline and uncompromising warrior life upholding the culture of honesty, hard work, sincerity and truthfulness. In the modern world, many young people are forgetting the details of one’s own cultural items and its ways of preparation in various areas.”


He said that, simply wearing the traditional shawls is not sufficient from the cultural point of view and advised the students to have proper knowledge of their own culture. He gave the example of log drum and its significance as told by some elders of the district, where it signifies unity, peace, strength, etc as the sound of the log drum is the same at all times and is a great symbol of unity. He said, the world is becoming in such a way where many educated people are entering into agricultural related sectors. 


“We also need to be equipped in all areas including the agricultural practices because education is not only confined to the college but to develop the students in all areas of life. He further exhorted the students to have determination to promote and preserve the cultural values and also have visualize aims in life to become successful individuals in the society by keeping in mind the four important Ds’ of Desire, Direction, Dedication and Discipline. 


He also applauded the college for adopting the culture of wearing the traditional items and dresses on every Wednesdays in the college. 


A press release issued by Convenor, Media Cell Sao Chang College stated that during the programme, traditional folk dances were performed by students from different communities displaying their unique culture and values attached to it. Apart from the folk dances, traditional attire show, cock fight competition and various other items were showcased.
