SAPO restriction: District admin monitoring situation

Morung Express news
Kohima | December 14

Ahead of the decision of the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) to prohibit Mao citizens from entering the Southern Angami areas from december 15, over issues pertaining to the dispute at Kezoltsa area, the district administration has said that law and order situation in the region would be maintained to avoid occurrence of untoward incidents.

Informing The Morung Express, Kohima DC Shanavas C today said that while it  acknowledges that it is a case of 'traditional boundary,' the District administration cannot bar the people from their part. He, however, added that the district administration would ensure that Law and Order is kept intact.

"We are ready with some deployment and we will be making sure that no untoward incident is reported," the Kohima DC said.
He further informed that assurance has also been given by the DC counterpart in Senapati of Manipur that unnecessary travels and movement will be discouraged.

While the pendency of the case which is in the court of the Tenyimi Public Organization (TPO) and the failure of the Mao Council and Manipur government to withdraw activities from the disputed area has been the reason of resentment for the Southern Angami public, President, Timikha Koza also informed that the date for delivering judgement by the TPO court with the Board of Arbitrators has been fixed to December 19, comprising of SAPO, Mao Council and Maram Khullen.

While he said that the TPO have also requested the SAPO earlier to reconsider such move stating 'personal engagments' that has kept the verdict on delay, he said congenial atmosphere should be maintained for the benefit of the Tenyimi people and all the Nagas.

However, Koza added that withdrawal or undertaking of any activities by the Mao Council or the Manipur activities or by any party in the disputed area is a common demand. He further added that the TPO is committed to resolve the issue for goodwill to prevail among the Tenyimis.

Earlier in a press release, the SAPO has said that the prohibition on the community has been called in light of alleged undesirable activities undertaken by the Mao Council with the Manipur government in the disputed areas.

The SAPO in March, this year had called a total bandh within the Southern Angami Jurisdiction on Manipur-bound private or public passengers/goods carrier vehicles/commuters.
