SASRD NU celebrates 42nd foundation cum alumni meet

Medziphema, October 22 (MExN): SASRD Nagaland University celebrated its 42nd foundation cum alumni meet at SASRD, Medziphema campus on October 22. The event was organized by SASRD, NU, Alumni Association, SASRD and co-sponsored by the alumni of 1985 (8th batch).
Prof. Rakesh Mohan, Director, UGC-HRD Centre, NEHU, Shillong and also a former faculty of SASRD graced the occasion as the special guest. Prof Mohan in his speech stated that “agricultural institutes in the region play a vital role in producing efficient agricultural graduates; connect developmental research with the society through extension activities.” He commended that SASRD was doing exceptionally well and complimented the faculty and supporting staff for their excellent teachings and strong research which can be seen by the success of the alumni in different professional fields. He also encouraged the young faculty to apply for more and meaningful projects for the upliftment of the society.
Alumni awards for meritorious students
AASASRD President Prof. L. Tongpang Longkumer announced the alumni awards for meritorious students. The awards are given annually in recognition of the outstanding academic excellence of the students and to inculcate a sense of competition among the students.
The “Peri Om Pun Excellence Award” was presented by Prof. T. Lanusosang, Pro Vice Chancellor of SASRD to Sukanya Bej for her outstanding academic performance in securing the Highest OGPA (8.73) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag 1st year course during 2018-19.
The “R2 Seeds Excellence Award” was presented by Prof Akali Sama, Dean, SASRD to Achano K. Ezung for her outstanding academic performance in securing Highest OGPA (8.50) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag 2nd year course during 2018-19.
The “Late Cherish Ch. Marak Excellence Award” was presented by Prof. V. Sharan of Dept of Agril Engg. to Sudipta Samanta for her outstanding academic performance in securing Highest OGPA (8.94) in B.Sc (Hons) Ag 3rd year course during 2018-19.
The grand “Alumni Award for Academic Excellence” was awarded by the special guest Prof. Rakesh Mohan to Nzanmongi for her outstanding academic performance in securing the 1st rank with 8.87 OGPA in the B.Sc (Hons) Ag course during the year 2015-16 to 2018-19.
A press release stated here that the programme was chaired by C. Peter Yanthan, General Secretary, AASASRD. Dr. Rokoneituo Nakhro, HoD, Department of Agril Economics invoked God’s blessing while a warm welcome address was delivered by Prof. Akali Sema, Dean, SASRD, NU. The EU Choir of SASRD presented welcome song and a time of reminiscence was shared by Shitangshu Hazarika, Alumnus of 8th batch. This was followed by exhortation by Prof. V. Sharan, Dept of Agril Engg and vote of thanks was pronounced by M Salhu, Vice-President of NUNTSA, SASRD, NU.
