
Highland Dawn Media of Kohima, in the process of producing a TV Reality Show competition to identify the 'Best Musical Instrumentalists of Nagaland,’ has selected the finalists for Kohima & Dimapur districts. The selection will now move on to Phek & Mokochung districts, and the whole process will be highlighted & telecast later on Doordarshan Kendra Kohima.
The competition & level of quality in both districts was good, and at Kohima, Ms Chentisangla Longkumer on the piano, and Mr. Diezevitso Chasie on classical guitar were selected. Also Imlimeren on guitar was selected under the folk fusion category. At Dimapur, the district finalists were Mr. Ruguoser Liegise on the piano, and Mr. Senti Jamir on electric guitar. Kevin Savino & Nokrang Longkumer too were selected on merit performance for the State finale to be held at Kohima.
The competition aspires also to encourage Naga folk music instrumentals, in the form of folk fusion music. So far there has been few competitors in this genre, and musicians of Phek, Mokokchung & neighboring districts are encouraged to join in this new category. Here performers can use any traditional Naga musical instrument along with western musical instrument, or only western musical instruments, a maximum of 1 or 3 performers with instruments.
Interested Musicians can register through the telephone, or come and register on the spot on 16th Sept [Fri] at Pfutsero, and 20th Sept [Tue] at Mokokchung. Participants of Pfutsero, Mokokchung & neighboring towns/districts can call/sms details to 9862651487. They can also get in touch with the district partners, ie, Youth department of the Chakhesang Baptist Church Council [CBCC], Pfutsero; and the Black n White Retro Lounge of Mokokchung.
The State level finale will be held at Heritage, Kohima on 30 Sept, 2011. Prizes amounting to Rs. 25,000 & Rs. 15,000 will be awarded for first & second State finalists. Prizes arranged for first & second finalists in all 4 districts will be presented on the State finals on 30th Sept, 2011.
