Kohima, September 28 (MExN): The Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Nagaland in collaboration with Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Calicut, Kerala conducted a seminar on production technology of spices and plantation crops at CIH campus on September 23.
A press release from the CIH Nagaland stated that the objective of the programme was to provide knowledge on recent production technologies and promotion of important spice and plantation crops like cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and turmeric.
During the inaugural programme, Dr Homey Cherion Director, DASD delivered the welcome address. Dr R Elithung Lotha, Director, Horticulture, Nagaland and Dr MH Khan Director, National Research Centre on Mithun, Nagaland graced the function as the guest of honour.
The invited resource persons were scientists and experts from ICAR-Central Plantation Crops and Research Institute (CPCRI) Kasaragod and ICAR--Indian Institute of Spice Research (IISR) Kozhikode, Kerala.
During the technical session, Dr Ravi Bhat, Principal Scientist, CPCRI, delivered presentation on high density cinnamon cultivation and Dr Femina, Dy Director, DASD gave presentation on establishment of large cardamom nursery and accreditation. Dr Kandiannan, Principal Scientist and Dr Mohammed Faisal Peeran from ICAR-Indian Institute of Spice Research delivered training on various aspects related to production technology of ginger and turmeric.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Moasosang Longkumer, Asst. Horticulture Specialist & Training incharge, CIH, Nagaland. Altogether, about 70 farmers participated and interacted with the experts.
