A seminar cum awareness program on “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) and potential of Food Processing in Nagaland” was held today at Longkumer Kilem, Mokokchung with Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal IAS as the special guest. PMKSY is a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme and the event was organized by the Department of Industries and Commerce, Government of Nagaland.
Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Sachin Jaiswal while addressing the seminar said that PMKSY offers viable employment opportunities for the many educated youths and encouraged them to avail the opportunity to generate self-employment. He observed that Nagaland was lacking behind the other North Eastern States in the food processing industry due to communication barriers, transport barriers and a general lack of knowledge and hoped that the day’s seminar would address these bottlenecks.
Delivering the keynote address, Shift In-charge, Industries & Commerce, Mhasiphizo Khezhie said that PMKSY was approved by the Government of India as a new Central scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters with an allocation of Rs. 6000 crores for the period of 2016-‘20 coterminous with the 14th Finance Commission cycle and implemented by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. He said that the PMKSY is a comprehensive package which will result in creation of modern infrastructure with efficient supply chain management from farm gate to retail outlet, doubling farmers’ income and creating huge employment, reducing wastage of agricultural produce, increasing the processing level and enhancing the export of the processed foods.
In the second session of the day, the FPI Cell of the Directorate of Industries & Commerce, Nagaland highlighted the scheme guidelines of PMKSY while Temsuyinla Jamir, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture as resource person spoke on the subject “Agricultural resources and its prospects in food processing” which was then followed by an interactive session.
DIC Mokokchung, General Manager, T Lipokwati Ao, Executive Assistant for Industries and Commerce, Avovi Neikha and Executive Officer of Industries & Commerce, Kuko Nuh were the other speakers at the seminar cum awareness programme.
