Seniors receives Citizen Awards 2019 Model Couple

Sungratsu, December 28 (MExN): The two-day platinum jubilee celebration of the Sungratsu Senso Mungdang (1944-2019) culminated on December 28 at Sungratsu village.

During the celebration, Citizen Awards 2019 Model Couple was received by Shour Chakra and Governor Medal recipient Meringangnen Aier (100 years old) and his wife Senliyangla Jamir (94 years old) for their contribution to the society in various capacities. The Citizen Award 2019 Model Entrepreneur was received by Wabangyanger Aier.

MLA, Dr Imtiwapang Aier while bringing the jubilee greeting said, “Indeed people of Sungratsu have been blessed by the Almighty with abundant luminaries in various fields who are serving the people in different capacities.” He attributed that the establishment of Impur, the Mission of ABAM itself is an indication that God had already set plans for the village for His glory.

He acknowledged the pioneers of Sungratsu Senso Mungdang who have started the Conference with a vision and also the seeds sowed today by the current generations and prayer that “there may be more visionary leaders from this land as we glimpse towards centenary celebration with a renewed vision that is befitting for all the people of Nagaland.”

S Takatuba Imchen, Director, Urban Development spoke on the Jubilee theme, “Teintet Senso” (Matured Citizen).  He said that a good citizen builds a strong and progressive society and continues to work for the progress of the people, however, asserted a bad citizen destroyed the civilization itself. 

In this connection, he asked the people to distinguish themselves in what category they determine themselves as citizen to the land and urged the people of Sungratsu village to look back to the village and incarnate a sense of admiration for one's village.

“Any citizen’s roots can be only traced back to their village,” he said while encouraging the people to contribute their best quality for the socio-economic development of the village.

“To admire your ancestral home,” he said, “people should not worship wealth and do away with the individualistic mindset; all the citizens should become one and contributed their best for the uplift of the Naga society.”
