Shanchobeni from Nagaland conferred best Panel Lawyer in NE

Kohima, November 9 (MExN): A Panel Lawyer under Nagaland State Legal Services Authorities (NSLSA), Shanchobeni P Lotha was conferred the 'Best Zonal Panel Lawyer' – (North East Zonal Category) during the National Legal Services Authority Day cum Commendation ceremony of best PLVs, PLs, SLSAs and DLSAs at Additional Building Complex, Supreme Court of India, New Delhi on November 9.
Union Minister for Law & Justice and Electronics & information Technology, Government of India Ravi Shankar Prasad was the chief guest at the event attended by Justice SA Bobde, Chief Judge of India designate and Executive Chairman, NALSA and other dignitaries.
Panel Lawyer, Shanchobeni was empanelled under Wokha District Legal Services Authority on November 24, 2017 and she was earlier conferred the best Panel Lawyer in the state, informed a press release from NSLSA.
The criteria for selection of best panel lawyer were adjudged based the parameters set out for the selection vis-à-vis other pursuits taken up - ability to perform in range of activities, handling of legal aid cases, court performances and advocacy skills, participation in capacity building programs, impact of work executed, assistance in outreach activities of organizational goals and others.
It was observed that she had actively rendered her services during Lok Adalats, and spearheaded in organizing various legal awareness programmes in the districts apart from taking up many legal aid cases to people in the grassroot and identifying people in need of legal assistance, the release said.
“Helping others as a passion,” she aspire to work for women and child rights and continue to pursue her calling and profession of far-reaching legal awareness with commitment and to the best of her ability, it said, quoting the Panel Lawyer.
She stated that the platform given to her by District Legal Authority is one without discrimination as opposed to the societal upbringing where as a family with 6 girls, her family more so her parents had always been pressured to give lesser education to women, it added.
