Showing compassion is our topmost priority, says Imkong

Dimapur, December 22 (MExN): Home Minister of Nagaland Imkong Imchen today issued a statement that “we have Naga political agenda and we have Nagaism with us. This is our number one manifesto and showing of compassion to our Naga brothers and sisters is our topmost priority.” The Home Minister issued a rejoinder today to what he claimed is the Nagaland Congress suggesting that the “toothless and helpless” NPF-led Nagaland government should now “use force against the Naga undergroundners.”

The Home Minister expressed his views in the backdrop of what he said is a “firing incident” at Ghukiye village in Zunheboto as well as the incident firing at Narharbari in Dimapur between the Naga underground groups recently.

According to him the “government of the day” cannot function by the “loose rational,” expounded by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC). “One can surmised the statement of the Nagaland Congress party that security forces should start killing the undergroundners so that their days of blood bath can return in the land of the Nagas,” the Home minister asserted in his rejoinder; adding “we shall never agree with the Nagaland Congress Party who propagates violence. The Congress party utterances are once again irresponsible as themselves.”

Referring to the firing incidents, the minister lamented that the “peaceful environment” and “normalcy of the state” have now been shattered yet again. The incidents at Narharbari and Ghukiye village have ‘highly disturbed and clouded the pleasant and joyful Christmas season,’ Imchen said. He fervently appealed to all the perpetrators to shunt the violent path and give peace a chance to the Naga people as they deserve. “I am hopeful that any conflicting parties will appreciate that, peace is a pre-requisite and the ultimate goal of the political solution for the Naga people,” Imchen added.

The minister is also “flabbergasted” at the NPCC for “hitting below my belt” and “questioned my sanity.” Such an utterance is “unprecedented and threatens the very fabric of democracy,” he said. “With the dawn of a new year, I pray that peace shall prevail across the length and breath of the State.”
