SHUATS Allahabad students complete internship in Nagaland

Kohima, November 5 (MExN): Valedictory programme of the 15 days Internship Training Programme for the B.Sc (Honours) Horticulture and B.Sc (Honours) Agriculture under Sam Higginbotom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), Allahabad, UP which started on October 22 concluded on November 5 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tesophenyu (Kohima). 

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ruokuovilie Mezatsu, Senior Scientist & Head encouraged the trainees to move out of the box and explore the vast agriculture potential which needs to be tapped. He further commented the need of competitive spirit in winning the hurdle is one is opting for government job, he also encouraged the scope of becoming an agripreneur and shaping the future of agriculture. 

Shedevikho Kuotsu (Student trainee) also shared his experiences and technologies he acquired from the whole training programme while Longma yanger ACTO (AgriExt) gave an overall assessment of the training programme. The Course Director and ACTO (Horticulture) Khekali Sema made the concluding remarks. 

K. Michael Pienyu ACTO (Plant Protection) was the chairperson of the valedictory programme. 

During these 15 days internship training programme, the trainees had the opportunity to learn different topics on the methods and techniques of conducting a survey, Use of ICT in agriculture, Video clip making, Mushroom rearing and production techniques, concept and management of nutritional gardens, production and management of winter vegetables crops, Importance of soil health, Techniques of soil sample collection and soil analysis using Mridaparikshad soil testing kits, Integrated pest Management (IPM) on Fruits and Vegetables, Demonstration of Farm Machineries, Integrated Farming System(IFS) Models, Bee rearing and its prospect, preparation of peanut butter, preservation of Mushroom and chillies and Jam making.

The Subject Experts were Dr Ruokuovilie Mezatsu (Sr. Scientist & head), Khekali Sema ACTO (Horticulture & course Director), K Michael Pienyu ACTO (Plant protection), Zhiete ACTO (Soil Science) Dr. Temjennungsang ACTO (Animal Science), Keviyieno Zhasa T.O. and  Longma Yanger ACTO (Agri Extension) respectively. 

The trainees also had the opportunity to visit Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Wokha and interacted with the KVK, Scientist and waylaid to various demonstration unit at the complex. The students also visited New Tesophenyu village and interacted with the farmers.
