
Dimapur, August 30 (MExN): St John College (SJC), Dimapur organised several webinars and events on a number of topics over the past week, the college Media Cell informed in a press release on Sunday.
A talk on the topic of ‘Gendering Security: Understanding Gender differentiated imagines in foreign Policy’ was conducted by Jube Boruah Mondal of Political Science Department on the August 24, for the Political Science Honours students 1st,3rd and 5th semester, during which Urbi Das, an Asst Prof in the Department of International Relation, Javadpur University, Kolkata was the resource person.
The resource person spoke on gender discrimination or differences that women use to face from independence till date. She spoke in regard to security issues during time of war with reference to recent Taliban occupied Afghanistan how the women as well the children had to suffer in terms of mental torture, physical violence etc. the release stated.
Another webinar on ‘Bamboo and Its Ecosystem Functions’ was organized by the Department of Botany in collaboration with Horticulture club on August 25 during which resource person Dr Mukta Chandra Das, District Environment Coordinator, Goalpara, Assam. Dr Das emphasized on the diversity of bamboo species in Northeast India and its ecological and commercial importance, the release stated. The programme was attended by more than 50 participants, it added.
On the occasion of Women Equality Day 2021 on August 26, the Political Science Department and Anti-Ragging and Sexual Harassment committee together conducted a programme on Women Empowerment, participation in politics and their security. Resource person for the event Mayashree Gharphalia, Asst Profr of Law at JB Law college Guwahati, Assam, spoke in regard to women's role in the house, society, towards nation and also how their participation in local bodies or at national level will help to bring out women related issues.
According to the release, on August 27, a talk on the ‘Indian Political Thinker: Kautilya’ was organised by Jube Boruah Mondal of the Political Science department. The resource person for the programme was Sujit Kumar Sonowal, Asst Professor of Political Science Department, Women’s College, Tinsukia, Assam, who spoke about the history of ancient Indian political thinker, Kautilya, and why he has been given the name Chanakya. Sonowal also elaborated on Kautilya’s political theory on Saptanga, Diplomacy, Law and Justice, the release stated.
