Kohima, January 4: To meet the demand for specific skills of a higher order, a public private partnership between the government and industry was proposed to promote modular employable skills under the name “Skill Development Initiative Scheme” to promote vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates etc. to improve their employability by optimally utilizing the infrastructure available in government/private institutions.
This was stated in the annual administrative report of the department of Employment & Craftsmen Training 2012-13. The report stated that existing skills of the person could also be assessed and certified under this scheme. In order to effectively implement the scheme, Nagaland Skill Development Initiative Society was formed and duly registered.
The report added that four Government ITIs and 13 private institutes have been registered as vocational training providers and imparting various MES courses.
The objectives of the scheme are: To provide vocational training to school leavers, existing workers, ITI graduates, etc. to improve their employability by optimally utilizing the infrastructure available in government, private institutions and the industry. Existing skills of the persons can also be tested and certified under this scheme and, to build capacity in the area of development of competency standards, course curricula, learning material and assessment standards in the country.
