A District Level Social Audit Public Hearing on MGNREGA under Dimapur district for two Blocks including Medziphema and Chümoukedima was held at the DRDA Conference Hall on March 13.
During the audit, State Resource Person, Social Audit Unit (SAU), Vepo Keyho said that the objective of holding the public hearing was to bring in transparency and accountability and garner better public participation under MGNREGA. He said out of 1200 villages approximately in the state, around 500 villages have been covered by the SAU team.
Six villages under Medziphema Block and seven villages under Chümoukedima Block were audited on Friday.
Presentations of their findings were made by the District Resource Persons and Village Resources Persons. Issues found in most of the villages include absence of sign boards at work sites and non-maintenance of three-phase photographs of the projects. The villages also did not hold regular Gram Sabhas, the resource persons added.
However, the Gram Sabha of the villages in their meeting earlier resolved all such issues and the respective VDB secretaries read out the resolutions. Friday’s social audit reaffirmed the Gram Sabha resolutions to: update and refine the job cards; to put up detailed citizen information board; to maintain 3-stage photographs; to maintain the panchayat documents properly etc.
SDO (C) Sadar, Dimapur, N Zubenthung Ngullie who also addressed the gathering said that creating awareness on MGNREGA needed to be taken more seriously and all projects should be completed within the stipulated time. He urged the villages to follow their resolutions seriously.
The public hearing was chaired by Project Director. DRDA Dimapur, H Atokhe Aye.
