Zunheboto, December 8 (DIPR): The programme for forthright observation, on elimination of violence against women from November 25 to December 10, was observed on December 8 at centre point Zunheboto, chaired by EAC (Headquarter Zunheboto) T. Lemlila Sangtam. The programme was organised by District Administration Zunheboto, coordinated by Sumi Totimi Hoho and sponsored by Nagaland State Commissioner for Women.
Speaking at the occasion ADC (Hq Zunheboto) Govind Jaiswal (IAS) said that in Naga tradition there is no violence against women and women are considered most important and major part of the society. He further said that in order to safeguard women's rights there is administration, police and NGOs but the most important is social awareness. Therefore he called out to Sumi Totimi Hoho, Student Unions, other NGOs and all dignitaries present at the function to organise social awareness from time to time and eliminate the social evil and be able to address women folk in all aspects in true spirit of Christianity.
VSM Commandant 21 Assam Rifle Zunheboto Col Manish Singha in his address to the gathering said that violence against women has taken a leap forward in the negative point of view in South East Asia where approximately 22 million women disappeared in the last decade in India, 20 to 30 million from China and several millions from the countries like Pakistan, Nepal and this violence against women is not only confined to the outside world but we are facing the same violence in the midst of the Naga society. Therefore we should try to eradicate this social evil. The first step towards violence against women should be through social fabric of our society. This social fabric can be enhanced towards elimination of violence by creating more awareness in the broader sense. He further said that Zunheboto is considered as the land of warriors therefore called upon the people to be warriors in fighting against social evil such as violence against women.
Others who spoke on the occasion included H. Sukhato Rotokha on behalf of Sumi Hoho, President SKK and Rev. Tokhezhe Kiba, Pastor SBAZ. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks from the chair.
