St Joseph’s College conducts webtalk on ‘Women Safety’

Kohima, September 20 (MExN): In observation of the 230th report of department related parliamentary standing committee on home affairs on ‘Atrocities of Crimes Against Women and Children’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the Women’s Forum, St Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Jakhama organised a webtalk on ‘Women Safety’ on  September 18. It was attended by 286 female faculties and students from the college. 

The programme was chaired by Dr Thejasenuo Julia Kirha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, SJC (A) and the welcome address was delivered by Khriebuno Nagi, Assistant  Professor,  Department of English, SJC (A). 

Dr Medonuo Pienyü (HOD), Department of Sociology, SJC (A), the resource person stressed on the awareness about violence, the legal rights, the safety measures and helpline available for women as major areas of concern. She added that women have internalised violence as normal and hardly stand up against domestic violence even though ending violence against women is everyone’s responsibility. By mentioning some safety tips for women’s safety she said that we need long term solutions to make a better and safer place for women. Therefore, one has to empower oneself by educating, learning and sharing about violence and seeking help from the services provided by the state. 

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Khrielieü Zumvü, Assistant Professor, Department of History, SJC (A).
