He said Solar City implied the usage of all types of renewable energy. The first project to be taken up in Kohima is to provide Solar Street Lights. On the Solar Water Heater, he said Kohima has the highest demand for Solar Water as it was very helpful in cold areas. He encouraged the use of Solar Water Heater stating that the consumers would only be paying one fourth of the actual cost. He said the consignments for the Solar Water Heater was expected soon and would be installing the equipments once it arrives.
Joint Director NRE, Er. Kavito Chishi solicited public support for the successful implementation of the solar city cell project. Ankush Goel of DARASHAW Company gave power-point presentation on Solar City Scheme Dimapur. In his presentation, Goel said that the objective and target of Solar City was to assist urban local bodies in assessing their present energy consumption and future demand and preparing master plans for energy saving and generation through efficiency measures and RE installations. The target is 60 cities with minimum one in each state to a maximum of five in a state having a population between 5 to 50 lakh. He also highlighted on the initiatives to be taken by municipal corporations/city administrations/SNAs. Initiatives include creation of Solar City Cell, constitution of Solar City Cell stakeholder’s Committee, organizing trainings workshops, business meets, awareness camps, publicity and awareness through electronic and print media. The meeting was sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy New Delhi and organized by Department of New and Renewable Energy Nagaland.
