Kohima, June 30 (MExN): The Deputy Chief Minister cum Home Minister (Dy. CM/HM) of Nagaland State, Y Patton, has ‘explained’ to the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, the “position and determination” of the PDA Government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) throughout the State “so as to protect the rights and interest of the indigenous people.”
According to a press release from the Dy. CM’s Office (DCMO), “Keeping in mind the unique history of the Naga people and special legal provision granted to the State of Nagaland,” the Dy CM reminded the Home Minister about the “commitment of the central leadership” and urged him to “take into consideration the concerns in protecting the identity and culture of the indigenous people of the North Eastern States while taking decision on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue.”
The Dy. CM was on a visit to New Delhi on Saturday along with TJ Longkumer IPS, DGP Nagaland and R Ramakrishnan IAS, Home Commissioner Nagaland. Here, he apprised the Union Home Minister about the “prevailing Law and Order situation and the measures taken by the State Government in coordination with the security agencies, civil societies and NGOs for maintaining peace and security in the State of Nagaland,” informed the Media Cell of the DCMO.
Patton is said to have “expressed hope that an honorable and acceptable solution will be reached at the earliest” under the current leadership at the centre.
While referring to Nagaland State being awarded the ‘Best Performing Small State in the Category of Law & Order’ by India Today in 2018, Patton requested the Government of India to “help in the initiatives taken by the State Government to improve the infrastructure for Police Department and modernize the Police forces to tackle cyber crimes.”
The Media Cell further stated that the Union Home Minister assured “all possible help and assistance towards the initiatives of the State Government.” Meanwhile, Patton also invited Shah to Nagaland.
A day later, the Dy. CM met with the State Advocate General, KN Balgopal, and “apprised him about the legal issues that confront the interest of the people of Nagaland and instructed him to take up all matters seriously in the appropriate legal forum on behalf of the State and assured him of all help and cooperation from the State Government to this end.”
