State Jamborette 2026: ‘Serving Community, Preserving Culture’

Nagaland’s Youth Resources & Sports Advisor S Keoshu Yimchunger today graced the inaugural programme of the State Jamborette 2026 of the Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) at the State Training Centre, Nerhema under the theme “Serving Community, Preserving Culture.”

Declaring event officially open, Keoshu, who is also president of NSBSG, said that Jamborette is a gathering where Scouts and Guides come together to learn, serve, share experiences, and build friendships.

“It is a chance to discover new skills, appreciate one another's cultures, and put the Scout and Guide values into practice,” he said adding that through the activities of the NSBSG, one can learn discipline, leadership, teamwork, self-reliance, respect, and service to others.

“These qualities help build responsible citizens who can contribute to their communities and to the future of our state,” Keoshu said.

Talking on the importance of co-curricular activities in education, he said “Education is not confined to textbooks, examinations, and the classroom. Classroom learning gives us knowledge, while co-curricular activities help us apply that knowledge and grow as individuals.”

He said that activities such as Scouting and Guiding teach cooperation, communication, creativity, leadership, problem-solving, and care for the community.

Keoshu encouraged students across Nagaland to enroll in the Bharat Scouts and Guides and take an active part in its programmes.

Scouting and Guiding can help you develop confidence, independence, practical skills, and a stronger sense of responsibility, he said adding that it can also help make friends and discover talents.

‘Live together, work together’
Chubanungla, State Chief Commissioner NSBSG and Jamborette Convenor said, “After a gap of nearly 25 years since the last State Jamborette in 2001, we have once again gathered together as one Scout and Guide family.”

She described this gathering of scout and guide as a celebration of friendship, service, discipline, leadership and the enduring spirit of Scouting and Guiding.

She said that the state Jamborette theme "Serving Community, Preserving Culture" reflects the values “that we wish to nurture among our young people.”

Service to the community is at the heart of Scouting and Guiding, while our culture, traditions and heritage form an important part of who we are, she said.

She said that the Jamborette 2026 registered participants from the 10 districts (Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, Shamator, Tuensang, Wokha, Zunheboto) including Band Party, Service Team and Staff.

Over the course of this Jamborette, the Scouts and Guides will demonstrate their skills and talents through folk songs, folk dances, quizzes, pageants, district exhibitions, district gate displays, food plazas and various friendship and traditional games. She said that Jamborette teaches the scouts and guides to live together, work together, respect one another and serve others.

“Let us remember the Scout and Guide ideals of service, loyalty, friendship, discipline, courage and responsibility, she said.

Recipients of Rashtrapati award honoured
The NSBSG has honoured Bikee Dutta, recipient of President Scout Awardee, 2018- 2021 batch from Vidhya Bhawan Higher Secondary School, Dimapur.

Other two recipients-Chotanu Natso and Visezonu Natso, President Guide Awardee 2018-2021 batch, from Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Kohima were also honoured at the programme.

The NSBSG extended congratulation to all three achievers for bringing highest laurel to the state.

Earlier, Flag hoisting was done by John Tochimong, SOC (Scout). Folk song competition winner- Shamator district performed folk song at the inaugural programme. The programme was compered by Vimezhonu Tetso, SOC (Guide) and while vote of thanks was proposed by Er. Thepfuzakie Angami SS & Jamborette Co-Convenor. 17 Assam Rifles commandant Col Tijo Joseph and several other dignitaries also present at the inaugural programme.

Meanwhile, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor, School Education and vice patron (Honorary) NSBSG will grace the closing programme on October 9 at 3:30 PM.
