State level ex-servicemen rally held at Kohima

A state level combined ex-servicemen rally for the benefit of ex-servicemen and their families, veer naris and war veterans of Assam Rifles and defence personnel took place here today at Assam Rifles Garrison Ground.

From this rally, 615 ex-servicemen of Army and Assam Rifles from Nagaland were honoured and felicitated by Maj PC Nair YSM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North).

It was held under the theme “Year of the next of kin and war veterans” under the aegis of Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) for veterans of the all districts of Nagaland with an aim to reach out to ESMs, disabled soldiers, Veer Naris, Widows and their next of kins for their comprehensive welfare and resolve their grievances especially with respect to pension.

A medical camp was also organized during the rally to provide medical facilities to ESM including specialized treatment.

The rally also provided an opportunity for the veteran to associate and socialize with each other at one platform. 

“It is the first time that Army and Assam Rifles ESM of entire Nagaland have attended a rally together in Nagaland,” according to IGAR (N).

The events included information kiosks manned by representative of pension authorities, Pay and Accounts Offices, Recruiting Office, Assam Rifles Ex-servicemen Association (ARESA), Rajya & Zila Sainik Boards, State Bank of India and HDFC Bank. 

The veterans also thronged various stalls put up by Assam Rifles in collaboration with State Government Department like Skill Development, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fishery and Kohima District Legal Services Authority. 

The ex-servicemen and families also get their job done on the spot facilities of Mobile Sim cards, Aadhar card, Pan card, Canteen Stores Department and Field Post Office. 

These kiosks not only remedied their complaints but also provided information about finance and investment scheme and employment opportunities for themselves and their dependents.

Medical and Dental camp attended to a myriad of ailments and was manned by Gen Practitioners Doctors, as also Medical, ENT, Eye, Ortho and Dental specialists who also disbursed free medicine to the veterans.

The rally was jointly spearheaded by Director General Assam Rifles, Shillong and Spear Corps, Dimapur. 

Maj Gen PC Nair addressed the veterans and felicitated 37 disabled soldiers with wheel chairs, hearing aids, walking sticks and stitching machine. 

All attendees were also gifted with blankets, shawls, caps, veteran badges and information pamphlets. 

Seven World War II Naga veterans were honoured and shared the dais with the chief guest.
