Stresses on need to strengthen ban on spitting and sale of chewable tobacco products
Kohima, June 27 (MExN): The State Tobacco Control Cell (STCC), Nagaland is continuing its activities to strengthen the ongoing campaign against COVID-19. Expressing concerns, Dr C Tetseo, Dy Dir & SNO NTCP, Directorate of Health &Family Welfare said that “chewing of paan, tamul and gutka is one of the highest in the country and coupled with lack of civic sense, spitting could become a major source of community transmission.”
He informed that Enforcement Activities, Focused Group Discussions (FGDs) with tobacco users, distribution of IEC materials in quarantine centers, government offices, markets and advocacy for Tobacco Free Village were carried out in all the districts during the week.
Dr Tetseo also stated that the district administration and village councils need to strengthen the ban on spitting and sale of chewable tobacco products, in view of the increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases in the State.
“It is important that we take all possible measures to reduce the transmission of the virus in the State,” he added.
