Strong monsoon activity in the coming week: NSDMA

Kohima, July 19 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather warning that strong monsoon activity such as incessant rains, squally weather and lightning strikes is expected in the coming week.


A press note from the Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Lhouchalie Viya stated that while the entire stretch of monsoon trough is shifting northward including Northeast India, a cyclonic circulation is heading towards Bangladesh and Meghalaya around July 20. Heavy rainfall is expected over the Northeast region including Nagaland, it said.


The weather conditions will get intense in between July 20 to 22 for which public are advised to exercise caution to avoid any eventualities during this period, it said.


Citing uncertainty associated with forecasted tracks of any cyclonic system and likelihood of heavy rainfall in the region, it further requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) and the other line departments, to be prepared to save lives and properties during this period.
