Students enlightened on ‘children’s right’

Dimapur, November 14 (MExN): Children’s Day was celebrated at Eden Hr. Secondary School, Dimapur with the theme “Children’s rights are the duty of all” which was jointly organized by Eden Secondary School, Eyilo Ministry and Prodigals’ Home (UNICEF), Dimapur on November 14.
K. Ela, Director, Prodigals Home highlighted the convention on the rights of the child. She encouraged the students to know their rights and learn to respect other children and to be more sensitive to those children that are unfortunate. She added that getting the highest grade alone is not complete education, but a child should learn to have good personality which would make them into a responsible adult, and a good human being.
Maong Jamir, Asst. Director, Prodigals Home gave a brief presentation on HIV/AIDS in child -friendly way. He mentioned that there are lots of children infected and affected by HIV /AIDS in Dimapur and added that most of them are from poor families. Jamir further stated that many HIV infected/ affected children do not go to school because of financial problems and encouraged the students to extend their help in different forms. He suggested the students to form school support group to extent help to infected and affected children in the school and outside. He also briefly highlighted the activities of CHILDLINE (Toll free 24X7 Child helpline with no 1098).
Rev. K. Chumben Kyong Convenor, Eyilo Ministry briefed about Eyilo Ministry under Lotha Baptist Church Dimapur. He shared about overcoming stigma and discrimination. He encouraged the student to remember those unfortunate friends and uphold them in prayers while celebrating this children day
Presentation of certificates along with tokens for the student with best Attendance and best student of the year were awarded from Class A to Class 12.
Vinod Khaba, Asst. Head Master gave the vote of thanks which was followed by a special prayer for children by Rev. Chumben Kyong. The programme was chaired by Marina Kikon, and Motsuthung Kikon, Principal, EHSS said the invocation and welcome address respectively. Approximately 600 students and 30 staffs attended the celebration.
