Students sensitised on child protection and legal safeguards at GHS Zuheshe

Niuland, February 12 (MExN): In a move to strengthen awareness on child protection laws, an awareness programme on juvenile cases and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was held at Government High School (GHS), Zuheshe on February 11.

The programme was organised under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative by the district administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Niuland, in collaboration with the Home Department.

Addressing the occasion,  EAC Niuland Kelengunuo Solo underscored the importance of sensitising students and communities on legal provisions safeguarding children.

Delivering the keynote address, Tsukhumla, UBSI from the Women Police Station, Dimapur, highlighted the significance of the POCSO Act and explained procedures related to handling juvenile cases.

She emphasised the need for awareness, timely reporting and collective responsibility in protecting children from abuse and exploitation.

An interactive session followed, during which students actively shared their views and raised queries on the subject.

The programme aimed to equip young people with knowledge about the laws protecting children and the legal consequences of violations, as per the State DIPR.
