Enhulumi, January 2 (MExN): The 10th edition of the Open Volleyball and Penalty Shootout Tournament, hosted by the Enhulumi (Yoseba/Pfutsemi) Youth Society, was successfully held at GMS, Enhulumi, from December 29 to 31. The three-day event attracted enthusiastic participation from players and spectators, marking a milestone in the tournament’s decade-long journey.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by Eyiewe Sekhamo, proprietor of ES Enterprise, who encouraged youth to uphold discipline, unity and sportsmanship, highlighting the role of sports in building character and strengthening community bonds.
Organised annually by the Called Group of Enhulumi Baptist Church, the event reflects the group’s commitment to serving God, the church and the wider community. Originally launched to promote fellowship and address social challenges such as alcohol addiction and disruptive behaviour among youth, the tournament has grown into a major platform for positive engagement, attracting participants from across the village and beyond, including residents of Enhulumi living elsewhere.
This year’s edition featured 14 volleyball teams—eight men’s and six women’s—and 10 men’s teams in the Penalty Shootout category, underscoring the event’s growing popularity and inclusive spirit.
In the Women’s Volleyball category, Students Union defeated Kepero to claim the title. Students Union also won the Men’s Penalty Shootout, beating Kapfomi in a closely contested final. In the Men’s Volleyball Championship, Youth Amigos retained their title after defeating Lezhimehu in a thrilling final match.
