Sumi Hoho submits memo to Home Minister

Dimapur, December 28 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho has urged the Union Home Minister to “remove all the Designated Camps within Zunheboto district otherwise strictly implement Ceasefire Ground Rules both in letter and spirit.” The representation was submitted by the Sumi Hoho to the Union Home Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto during a peace rally held at Zunheboto town on December 27.

“The GOI is in ceasefire with the NSCN groups in the state of Nagaland and accordingly Ceasefire Ground Rules is in place but the groups in question are not adhering to the Ceasefire Ground Rules and the Ceasefire Mechanism has totally failed to implement its Ground Rules which resulted to intimidation, extortion and killings,” stated the representation signed by Sumi Hoho President H Hesso and Secretary Vihuto Asumi.

The Sumi Hoho pointed out that it had urged the Chairman CFMG/CFSB to withdraw all Designated Camps within Zunheboto district but the latter replied asking it to “cooperate.” It may be mentioned that the Sumi Hoho had written to the Chairman CFMG/CFSB on August this year for removal/withdrawal of all designated camps in Zunheboto district. Taking their grievance to the street, the Sumi Hoho organized a “silent procession” on the December 27 at Zunheboto town where more than 10,000 people participated. The public held banners that read "Strictly adhere to the Ceasefire Ground Rules", Stop factional killings", "Naga issue is political not factional," etc.

Informing of the “silent procession” a press statement issued by Vice President Kitoho Rotokha and Secretary Vihuto Asumi stated “The recent factional killings and the presence of all the faction cadres at Zunheboto has been creating panic and tension for the general public.”

The note asserted that in spite of repeated appeals made by the Hoho and other Sumi frontal organizations to “the warring NSCN groups to confine to their respective designated camps, the groups have failed to honour the voice of the people.”  

The note informed that “the public gathered at the Main police Point, DC Office Junction where leaders expressed their resentment to the NSCN groups for not adhering to the Ceasefire Ground Rules and also the Ceasefire Mechanism for totally failing to implement its Ceasefire Ground Rules.”
