Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): The Sumi Officers’ Union of Nagaland has expressed its opinion over the issue where one its colleagues – the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur was singled out “for the release of relief sanctioned by the Government of India (GoI) for the Vihokhu incident (June, 2008), and the resulting misunderstanding arising from the payment of relief (2011) for the damages thereof.”
The union explained the government process and system. “The issue of approval for opening any office/designated camp is taken up by the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) under the Chairman, CFSB appointed by the Government of India with representation from the state comprising of Commissioner Nagaland; DGP, Nagaland; a Central representative from MHA and the IGAR. Hence, any deputy commissioner in the state would not have any authority to decide and cannot/ should not be held responsible.”

The union stated that “In the present scenario where all sections of the people are yearning for peace and reconciliation, it is the fervent appeal of the Sumi Officers’ Union, Nagaland that Individual officers should not be targeted and any communication gap should be settled through mutual consultations/clarifications - true to its intentions, before recourse through the media.” It further added that “If necessary, clarification can be sought from the Higher authorities in the State Government or Government of India.”
