‘Tech interventions to double farmers' income’

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 18 (MExN): A one day State Level Kisan Mela cum Farmers Scientist Interaction Programme on the theme ‘Technology Intervention for Doubling Farmers' Income’ was organized at Town Hall Tseminyu on December 17. 

The special guest for the programme, R Khing, Advisor, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services and Women Resources Development, during his inaugural speech stressed that farmers' product are organic by default and since ages they have been  cultivating for self sustenance.

He stated that technical intervention in agriculture is needed for doubling the income of individual farmers which will indirectly reduce the import of food grains from other state making Nagaland a progressive organic state. He further emphasized the visibility of Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s activities in the state and asked the farmers to bridge the gaps. 

The special guest also released two publications on Inventory of Technologies in Agriculture for Kohima District-Technical Bulletin No-I and Annual Newsletter Vol-II, No-I of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kohima. After the inaugural programme, Khing also Inaugurated the exhibition pavilion. 

The departments which participated for the exhibitions included KVKs from Wokha, Dimapur, Peren, Kohima, Phek, Mon ,Tuensang, Longleng, Mon, Mokokchung, Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary services Tseminyu, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic resources Tseminyu, ATMA Kohima District, Henbenji farmers club and SHGs under Tseminyu subdivision. 

The participants were also enthralled with a song by Yhunele Magh. Invocation prayer was pronounced by Rev. Shukhi Mesen Bethel Baptist Church, Tseminyu while briefing and introduction on Kisan Mela was said by Dr. V. Akashe Zhimomi, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Kohima. The vote of thanks was expressed by Dr. Temjennungsang Jamir, ACTO, KVK Kohima. The Compere for the whole programme was Sole Tep.

During the Farmers-Scientist interaction, the expert panels were Dr. Hanna Krujia, KVK Phek; Dr B L Mhalo Tungoe, KVK Wokha; Dr. Ebibeni Ngulie, KVK Dimapur; Dr V Kenny Rhetsu, KVK, Dimapur; James Kikon, KVK, Peren and Dr. Ruopfuselhou Kehie, KVK Mokokchung. 

Power point presentations on progress on doubling of farmer income at Wokha district, improved agriculture practices for livelihood improvement and promotion of potato seed village at Tuensang district were presented by Dr. BL Mhalo Tungoe, Dr. Khumdamo Ezung and Seveto Nyekha respectively.

The programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kohima in association with Agriculture Technology Application Research Institute Zone-VII, Umian, Meghalaya under the sponsorship of ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansdhan, Almora, Uttarakhand
