Tetso College National Seminar on Fourth World Literature culminates

Dimapur, November 24 (MExN): A three-day online National Seminar on ‘Fourth World Literature: Voices of the Marginalised with Special Reference to Northeast India’ organized by the Department of English, Tetso College culminated on November 24. The seminar was sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

Prof Bhagirathi Panda, Honorary Director ICSSR, North Eastern Regional Centre, NERC, NEHU Campus Shillong, delivered the keynote address the valedictory session. 

As per a release from the college, the feedback of the seminar was also given by three participants including Dr Arzuman  Ara, Asst. Professor, EFL University, Shillong who said the the session was organised especially with reference to Naga writers and expressed her excitement that research scholars have now taken North East literature as the focus.

Dr Sentinaro, Asst Professor, Baptist College, Kohima opined that it was in universal solidarity and consciousness, that the Fourth World Literature became a concern. 

“Naga writings have much to work on as there are scanty material for research work. Such conferences will bring about more space for concepts of revisionism, insider’s perspective, self-introspection in creative writing that speaks truly the Naga way of life,” she added.

According to Ashuli Kaisang, Ph D Research Scholar, School of Social Sciences, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati Campus, the seminar was intellectual and informative, history highlighted, and problem explored themes and genres. She considered it to be an insightful one.

Meanwhile, Prof Bhagirathi Panda, Honorary Director ICSSR, North Eastern Regional Centre, NERC, NEHU Campus Shillong, delivering the special note, expressed his gratitude that it was an insightful session which despite his less known information on the particular topic, was an unveiling experience.

“There are gems underneath the sea likewise marginalized people have much to share and offer in the field of information and research. Social capital is the backbone and a big resource to build a good research grounding. Hence, Fourth World Literature serves the purpose,” Prof Panda stated.

The closing remarks and certificate distribution was conducted by Dr Rosy Tep, Convenor, HoD, Tetso College. She thanked all the presenters, sponsors or and support staff for making the program a smooth success. She made an assurance that the department will continue to work on the cause that was.

Altogether, 28 participants actively participated in the seminar, the release added.
