Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): As part of its ongoing initiative to “catalyze conscientious action,” The Morung Express is organizing The Morung Debate. The first debate is scheduled to begin on August 16, with the final debate slated for September 7 in Dimapur, though dates remain tentative owing to circumstances.
“The purpose of The Morung Debate is to create a platform for healthy dialogue and competition where relevant topics on socio-economic, cultural, political and religious issues will be debated. It is aimed at encouraging young people to engage in a competitive and healthy dialogue where they share opinions on issue-based subjects that may impact the social discourse,” stated the Morung Debate Team in a press release today.
The Morung Debate is a team-based event that is open to individuals between the ages of 18-25 years. It is designed as an annual public competitive debate introduced to “offer an opportunity for young people to be a part of an initiative to positively impact society.”
“Through this competition, The Morung Express seeks to contribute in enabling a contemplative consciousness, developing young leadership and exploring new forms of praxis in engaging with the various challenges of the 21st century,” stated the press release.
The Debate Teams will be comprised of 16 teams, 5 persons per team. Each team will have 3 speakers, a manager/coach and one substitute speaker.
Registration is free of cost and the deadline closes on July 31.

Monetary Prizes for The Morung Debate
Rs. 50,000/- for the Winning Team
Rs. 30, 000/- for the Runners-up
Rs. 10, 000/- for the two Semi-Finalists
Rs. 5000/- for Best Speaker (For the motion and Against the motion)
Rs. 5000/- for Most Promising Team
There will be a running trophy for the winning team and individual certificates will be awarded to all participants.
