Therie calls on public leaders to practice ‘one man, one vote’

Dimapur, December 15 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee President K Therie on Tuesday said that the Church’s Clean Election Campaign has been necessitated because of persistent ‘dirty practices’ in election. He called on the public leaders of Pfutsero to heed the call of the church and practice ‘one man, one vote’ in the bid to ensure clean elections.

Addressing a meeting with public leaders at Pfütsero Town, Therie also raised concerns over the issues confronting society today. Therie said the long established foundations of Christianity in Nagaland are being diluted and eroded at an alarming pace. He said the values of truthfulness and sincerity are threatened by unabated corruption at all levels which has reached its zenith. According to Therie, only the corrupt are thriving while politicians and bureaucrats are shamelessly buying multistoried buildings in Dimapur and Kohima. He also stated that MGNREGA funds have been drastically siphoned off as some villages have barely received 7 days’ wages while many others have received 20-30 days wages.

According to a press release received here, Therie said despite three decades of political negotiations, the lack of will power of the Government has ensured that settlement eludes the Nagas.

Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration that the Naga Political issue has been resolved and also the assertion of the Interlocutor to the Government of India that talks have concluded, he said the Chief Minister of Nagaland on one hand, failed to bring all sections of Naga national workers on board, and on the other hand, failed to pressure the central Government to bring the negotiations to its logical end.

Therie assured that given opportunity, Congress would implement the solution while also assuring that the Congress’ vision is to ensure the welfare of every citizen across all sections of society.

Therie further asserted that the pioneers of Nagaland state have ensured its creation by sacrificing their blood, sweat and tears. He however lamented that Nagaland today is disintegrating because the people are dissatisfied with the government of the day.

He went on to state that the people of the eastern parts of Nagaland are suffering on account of lack of all aspects of infrastructure and roads, no staff in the offices, no doctors in hospitals and no teachers in schools. CM Neiphiu Rio has totally failed the people which has led to the demand for Frontier Nagaland gaining momentum, he maintained while adding that the Congress is the only party which has urged the brothers from ENPO to reconsider their demand while the remaining have kept silent.

He urged the leaders at all levels irrespective of political color and organization to treat every citizen equally to deliver the welfare schemes from the Government. He further urged the first time voters and the electorate in general to use this precious upcoming chance to wisely vote for the future of Nagas particularly for the young and upcoming generations.

NPCC General Secretary in-charge Phek Athang Chongloi also addressed the gathering which was chaired by Pusato Thira. Rev Dr N Chiero, Senior pastor, PTBC invoked God’s blessings while benediction was pronounced by Ngotso Dasai, Pastor, Rukizu Baptist Church, the release informed.
