Thonoknyu & Panso sensitized on community empowerment

Participants along with officials after the collaborative programme on community empowerment held in Thonoknyu and Pathso circle of Tuensang on February 4.

 

Tuensang, February 6 (MExN): A collaborative programme on community empowerment through an integrated approach was organized in Thonoknyu and Pathso circle of Tuensang on February 4.

 


It was organized by DEF-Tuensang, District Administration, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK)-Tuensang, National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Empowerment and Tuensang District Football Association at GHS Hall, Thonoknyu.

 


The second phase collaborative programme on community empowerment through an integrated approach was held in Pathso Town on February 5.

 


The main objective of the programme was to sensitize the individuals on various aspects through integrated approach for uplifting the livelihood of the people.

 


The programme was chaired by Dr Pritpal Kaur (IPS), SDPO, DEF Tuensang, speaking on the occasion Dr Kaur emphasized on quality education, hardwork, sincereness and perseverance and career options.

 


Phuniyang NCS, SDO (Civil) Thonoknyu delivered the welcome address.

 


A short speech on Control of Blindness & Visual Empowerment was delivered by I TochiImlong, Opthalmic Assistant, CHC Longkhim followed by eyesight test and distribution of spectacles.

 


A short speech was also delivered by Dr Shisarenla Aier, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), KVK-TSG where she emphasized on the importance of scientific cultivation practices, followed by hands-on training on Ginger candy making and Chilli pickle making.

 


The participants were also trained on scientific cultivation of potato, onion, mushroom cultivation by  Yanger I Kichu, Farm Manager, KVK Tuensang.

 


Importance of soil testing and method of soil sample collection was given Seveto Nyekha, Programme Assistant, KVK Tuensang. Planting materials like Potato tubers around 400 kg and Onion seeds around 10 kg were distributed to the farmers. Career guidance to students was also given by Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS and Phuniyang, NCS.

 


Games and sports equipments like Carrom Board, Football and Volleyball were distributed to the student bodies by DEF-Tuensang and Tuensang District Football Association. Altogether 341 patients were tested for eyesight and 234 numbers of spectacles were distributed in both Thonoknyu and Pathso. 

 


Altogether, 417 participants from Thonoknyu and Pathso which included students and farmers participated in the programme along with officials from Tuensang-Police, KVK-TSG, TSG-Administration, National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Empowerment.
