After a journey of six long months and neck to neck competition, the Season 5 of Campus Icon has finally come to an end with Thungchobeni R Tsopoe, a class nine student of DBHSS as the Campus Icon 2011. She belted out a soulful number called “Faith will keep me going” of her own compositions with Piano as her only musical accompaniment. Right behind her was Akumrenla Ao, also a class nine student of LMS Wokha singing the number ‘Hero’ a track from Mariah Carey losing the title by a margin of just 0.5 marks. The 3rd runner up went to Randanbeni and the fourth to Shanchobeni.
The Campus Icon received Rs. 15,000/- sponsored by Dr. & Dr. (Mrs) Chumben Murry, Minister for Agriculture Government of Nagaland, 1st runner up Rs. 10,000/- sponsored by Alberth & Co. A government registered 1st class Contractor & Supplier and 2nd runner up Rs. 7,000/- sponsored by Sejong Sangtam, Senior SP Wokha.
Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest encouraged and also appreciated the organizers for creating such an event where latent talents can be exposed and developed at the same time. “As apt as the theme could be the Team Metamorphosis has indeed picked up the right tool in challenging the young leaders of the future. Using Music, the Team as well as the students would be able to metamorphose the society into a better one”, he added. Music is applicable to any situation. In times of joy, sorrow, peace or even war and so also very much for better education, he said.
The president of ANPSA Wokha Unit Mhonyamo Ngullie also spoke on the occasion and said even in the near future the office of ANPSA Wokha shall extend full support and co-operation to the team as they strive towards excellence for making our society a better one. The programme started with the finalists of Campus icon 2011 and the former Campus icons singing together the song “Set it on”. W Zurenthung Humtsoe, the Youth Director of WTBC blessed the gathering with prayer. As a preparation for the final competition the contenders sang their favourite Hindi numbers. Before each of them sang their competition number, video clippings from their Campus Icon 2011 journeys was displayed on the giant screen. This is not the end of Campus Icon 2011. Whoever among the finalists secures 60% and above in their final exam will receive Academic Scholarship for the Academic year 2012.
