Tour guides urged to present good image of Nagas to outside world

Nagaland Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neiba Kronu today urged upon the tour guides to be well acquainted with the unique history and cultural heritage of the Nagas and present the good image of the Nagas to outside world.

“You will be ambassador of our state,” he said while addressing the concluding programme of the tour guide training here at YouthNet office on November 15.

Kronu also stressed on the need to have a sustainable tourism, adding that the state must have a complete package to attract tourists throughout the year. He maintained that Nagaland tourism has a great potential for growth unlike other sectors.

Also stating that Nagas has a rich cultural heritage and rich biodiversity, he said that tourism sector has a great potential as Nagas are hospitable and welcoming people by nature. He urged the tour guides to smartly strategies on taking advantage of the opportunities available in the tourism sector.

Nagaland Commissioner & Secretary for Tourism, I Kitto Zhimomi said that tour guides are front-liners of the tourism sector. He requested the tour guides to present their best to tourists and focus on being good story-teller as “we have many stories which are unknown to the world outside.

Onen Nenty spoke on behalf of the trainees and thanked the YouthNet and the state government for building the capacity of the youth in tourism sector. She assured that they (tourist guides) will exercise diligently and work hand in hand for better Nagaland.

YouthNet director Nuneseno Chase informed that the tour guide training programme started earlier this year in August, was initiated by YouthNet in association with Pier Tours and sponsored by the Department Of Planning & Coordination, Nagaland and supported by Department of Tourism, Nagaland.

The training programme ended successfully with 56 participants. She said the objective of the training was to enhance and impact skills to eligible youth who are interested in building their career in the tourism sector.

Further, the tour guide programme also opened an opportunity to six trainees to get further training in a 10 day intensive outdoor training programme at Hanifi Centre in Uttarakhand.
