To facilitate market for agri and allied produces in the rural areas, the State Cooperation Department has launched two ‘Cooperative Marketing Bus’ for Tuensang and Longleng districts through Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) scheme under National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC).

Addressing the launching ceremony here at Registrar's Office Complex, Tiyongmeren Jamir, Registrar of Cooperative Societies Nagaland said, “the cooperation department have been putting its best effort to uplift the rural economy in the state.” He was optimistic that the Cooperative Marketing Bus will benefit and serve the farmers well its purpose.

Jamir also thanked Minister Agriculture & Cooperation, Nagaland, G Kaito Aye, for making such transportation facility a reality.

In keynote address, Imsunungsang, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies said that the ICDP is a scheme under NCDC where an area development approach is adopted for development of cooperatives.

NCDC accorded sanction in the month of January 2018 for implementation of ICDP in the districts of Kohima, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire and Peren for an outlay of Rs. 5209.98 lakhs. The period of project is 4 years.

Few years back, he said, the department started an initiative of registering ‘One Village One Society’ by enrolling one member from each household in the village with the objective for upliftment of their economic condition. During the formulation of the ICDP project, the department observed that the villagers could not dispose off their produces profitably and also find difficulty in bringing essential commodities from the market due to lack of proper transportation.

Looking into the needs of these marginal farmers in the village, the department designed this Cooperative Marketing Bus (CMB) with focus on carrying capacity of 60% for passengers and 40% for goods. Through this bus, all kinds of agri produces can be transported.

Medium/Small Livestock can also be transported by this bus. He said the bus has a seating capacity of 17 passengers which can also be adjusted to accommodate more than 23 passengers when there are lesser goods. This vehicle can also be used as ‘Market on Wheel.’

The vehicle was built on TATA LP/410 chassis at Kamrup Construction, Guwahati with an estimated cost of about Rs 23.00 lakhs.

The launching programme was chaired by Bokato Hesso, Deputy RCS. Representatives from two beneficiaries- Pang Village Integrated MPCS Ltd, Tuensang and Tamlu Village Integrated MPCS Ltd, Longleng also spoke at the programme and thanked the government for extending such facility to boost the rural economy.
