TPO meets arbitration board on Dzükou issue

Kohima, February 2 (MExN): The Tenyimi Peoples’ Organisation (TPO) in its effort to resolve the pending dispute in Kezoltsa/Kozürü/Kazing and some part of Dzükou valley between the Angami, Mao and Maram people, undertook a series of exercises commencing from January 27.

A communiqué from the TPO on Tuesday informed that besides physical visits to the area, both manned and unmanned aerial surveys and marathon deliberations and communications, a joint meeting was also held with the Board of Arbitrators (BOA).

It said that the meeting unanimously committed to reaffirm and uphold the Arbitration Undertaking signed in 2017 by three contending parties with special emphasis on the agreed point  “that the land belongs to the people and not to any state or government, agreed to resolve the dispute based on Naga Customary Laws and its Usages (Tenyimi) and not to resort to approach any other Court(s) and also do hereby commit to abide by the decision of the BOA and co-operate with the TPO for strict implementation of the decision given by the Arbitral Tribunal.”

According to the release, it was also resolved that all activities in the disputed area should be stopped and all vehicular roads leading to Kezoltsa/Kozürü/Kazing at the points where it was cut prior to the fire that had razed the area earlier this year would be cut-off. To this effect the House has agreed to take action on or before February 8, with volunteers from the three contending parties, it added.

Further, the house agreed that hunting in the area should completely stop and people going about with guns shall be viewed very seriously. The members decided that the next meeting would be held on February 9 at Hotel Millennium, Kohima, the release stated.
